Birmingham Feeding Programme
The Birminham feeding programme started in March 2022. AMURT’s Birmingham team serves hot, nutritious meals to homeless and vulnerable people in the city centre on the first Saturday of every month. What began with around 50 people has grown steadily, and we now support an average of 120 individuals each month.
Our work in Birmingham is entirely volunteer-led. Food is sourced from two local food banks, and when supplies fall short, generous donations from the Birmingham Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market help us meet demand. We use fresh produce, rice, and oil to prepare nourishing meals.
A local women’s charity group has supported the project for two years, raising funds for essentials like compostable containers, kitchen rental, and cooking equipment. One of the food banks kindly lends us a van for transport, and a nearby church supports us with access to the market area where we serve, making the setup much easier.
This Birmingham feeding programme has become a reliable support system for many in need, offering not just food but dignity, warmth, and connection. Through partnerships and consistency, AMURT/EL is becoming a recognised and respected presence in Birmingham’s community care landscape.
To help the programme to continue to help the community in Birmingham, volunteers are invited and donations at this link are welcome.
On Saturday 6 December 2025 we fed over 89 people, with veggie mix, pumpkin and potato stew, rice, salad, bread and pastries along with fresh fruits and vegetables for all.
