London Programme Manager

Conditions of Service

£15 per hour 21 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend work. Contract to end of April/beginning of May 2022 with possible extension pending funding.


London – Stoke Newington, remote.

The organisation:

AMURT UK is a grassroots disaster relief and community development organisation. We work with local communities to relieve the immediate suffering of those affected by disaster and crises and help them move on with their lives through community building activities.

In the UK, AMURT’s projects focus on feeding the homeless, engaging with volunteers, avoiding food waste and support to refugees and asylum seekers. We have homeless feeding programmes in London and Liverpool, drop-in English classes for asylum seekers in Liverpool and the Food for All health food shop and herbal dispensary, a trading company that donates its profits back to AMURT UK.

We also partner with AMURT chapters internationally which respond to the specific needs and challenges of their local areas.

AMURT has always relied on committed and trusted volunteers to implement its programmes and is now looking for a Programme Manager to run its London programmes.

Main Purpose of Job

  1. Coordinate and ensure AMURT London Programmes run smoothly
  2. Manage London Programme staff and HR issues
  3. Manage partnerships with other actors
  4. Responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation of AMURT UK’s London programmes
  5. Research new service possibilities
  6. Develop new projects for AMURT UK in London

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Manage and ensure London programmes run smoothly
        1. Manage a team of part-time staff to ensure the successful and safe delivery of AMURT’s London Programme operations:
          • Supervising the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure they have found volunteers for all roles required
          • Supervising the Logistics Coordinator to ensure all the elements for the delivery of the service are available
          • Supervising the Social Enterprise Manager to ensure the successful development of AMURT’s brand new social enterprise
        1. Carry out and implement necessary risk assessments for programmes
        2. Oversee all hygiene and health and safety procedures are maintained across all programmes
        3. Source any necessary materials/merchandise for programme i.e. sleeping bags, clothes, PPE, disposables, ingredients
        4. Be responsible for and manage the programme budgets in communication with the Finance Officer.
        5. Lead on development of a London Programmes Manual
  1. Manage London Programme staff and Human Resource issues
        1. Manage London Programme staff including providing monthly supervision
        2. Assess London Programme staff performance and productivity and ensure they have the support they need
        3. Identify training and development needs for staff and volunteers
        4. Responsible for ensuring modular training for volunteers is developed and performed as per funders’ expected outcomes
        5. Manage recruitment of London Programme Staff
        6. Deal with any HR issues arising
        7. Work in communication with the fundraiser, to develop and manage a yearly budget
  1. Manage partnerships
        1. Work with existing charity partners such as venues, donors, and beneficiaries, to ensure partnerships run smoothly, good relations are maintained, and deliverables are met
        2. Identify and engage with new partners
        3. Ensure all new partners sign and adhere to Memorandum of Understanding including any monitoring requirements
  1. Be responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation of AMURT UK’s London programmes
        1. Monitor and evaluate status of London programmes on a regular basis to ensure that it is meeting the needs of our beneficiaries; e.g. through regular surveys
        2. Undertake needs assessments as requested
        3. Be responsible for follow-up with partners on monitoring requirements and collecting this information intermittently
        4. Provide regular reports with impact data which can be displayed on the website
  1. Research new service possibilities and develop new projects for AMURT UK in London
        1. Identify needs and explore possibilities for developing new programmes or expanding existing ones
        2. Work collaboratively with Fundraising manager on funding applications and by providing data from needs assessments and project outcomes.
        3. Work with the team to implement new projects
        4. Develop user manuals for any new programmes

Person Specification


  • Bachelor degree or certification



  • Minimum of 3 years’ full-time work experience in a related field
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Experience managing projects/programmes
  • Proven ability to attract, deploy and motivate a team
  • Developing new programmes and attracting funding for these
  • Experience of ensuring health and safety and food hygiene standards are maintained
  • Experience of recruitment
  • Experience of dealing with Human Resource issues


  • Understanding of working the field of food/catering
  • Ability to teach cooking skills or managing trainers
  • Experience of working with food poverty
  • Previous monitoring and evaluation work
  • Work with or alongside a small charity

  • Good written and oral English communication skills
  • Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills, including MS Office


  • Driving license, able to drive when needed
