Kitchen Supervisor for Thursday afternoons – London Feeding Programme

Do you enjoy cooking healthy vegetarian food and meeting a diverse range of people in your community? Would you like to manage a team and cook for large numbers of people facing food insecurity?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed kitchen supervisor to lead our team of 5-7 volunteers in the vital preparation of approx. 130 hot meals for London’s homeless and the vulnerable households in our community, every Thursday afternoon from 1pm – 6pm. A background in catering is a bonus but not essential.

The job is part-time, 5-6 hours per week with the potential for more hours, if desired and if your skills match other needs of the organisation.

You would be working in our Stoke Newington kitchen, within a great team of friendly staff and lovely volunteers.

About AMURT UK

AMURT UK is a grassroots disaster relief and community development organisation. Our projects focus on feeding the homeless and vulnerable families, food waste, healthy eating and support to refugees and asylum seekers. We have feeding programmes in London and Liverpool, and the Food For All health food shop and herbal dispensary, a trading company that donates its profits back to AMURT UK.

AMURT UK has been feeding homeless people in Holborn since 2011. Currently we feed between 150-180 people each week in Hackney as well as Central London. The people we serve are homeless, have fallen through various social safety nets, or are simply struggling with the high cost of living and food inflation. Find out more about the London Feeding Programme on our website.

What you will be doing

The Kitchen Supervisor will be responsible for leading the afternoon shift of volunteers who come help to prepare approx. 130 meals for our regular queue in Holborn and for vulnerable people in our neighbourhood.

Duties will include:

·       Leading hygiene and kitchen safety briefings before each session, and ensuring that hygiene and health & safety procedures are adhered to.

·       Inducting any new volunteers to the working environment.

·       Delegating kitchen roles.

·       Ensuring all volunteers feel supported throughout sessions.

·       Reporting volunteer attendance and programme updates to the Volunteer Coordinator.

·       Feedback to Programme Manager regarding stock of ingredients.

What we are looking for?

We are looking for an afternoon shift Kitchen Supervisor on an ongoing basis (minimum of three months) to coordinate the afternoon shift of our meal preparation. The person must be happy to work with people from diverse backgrounds as well as ensuring that you identify and develop volunteers’ talents to ensure that they are engaged and satisfied with their roles.

The Kitchen Supervisor will have fantastic time management and thrive in a busy and fast paced environment. The role will be responsible for a large-scale preparation of meals, so experience of working in a commercial kitchen is desirable.

The difference you will be making

With the cost-of-living crisis, where many households are facing food poverty and worse, the risk of poverty increases and challenges the ability of families to be able to follow Government health advice. With your support, we can provide our community’s most at risk individuals with delicious nutritious meals and healthy snacks to help boost their immune systems.

Time

Every Thursday 1.00pm-6.00pm (potentially with some out of hours coordination when required)

Place

AMURT HQ, 3A Cazenove Road, N16 6PA (Stoke Newington)
